ACHIEVEMENTS:
a) educational: a new course (1996) on Digital Speech Processing for
Telecommunications (42h courses, 26 practical classes) for students in
the fifth year of Telecommunications Speciality and fo MS in
Telecommunications. This course is a result of TEMPUS S-JEP "DIDAPRO"

b) research: automatic speech recognition for Romanian using DTW,
ANN-MLP, HMM. Original software and hardware fully developed and
implemented in our laboratory of Speech Processing

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
Speech Processing for Telecommunications, course held by Prof. Giurgiu
Mircea to the students in the 5-th year on Telecommunications. Fall
semester, 3h/week course, 2h/week laboratory, 14 weeks. Prof. Giurgiu is
leading diploma projects on Speech Processing for Telecommunications
Applications and on ASR with HMM and ANN and since 1997 on Distance
Learning facilities for advanced Speech Processing.
IMPLEMENTED SYSTEMS AND TOOLS:
- Speech Acquisition Cards (PCM and Delta)
- Automatic Speech Acquisition over the Telephone Line
- Software environment for Speech Acquisition and preprocessing (FFT,
LPC, cepstrum, Vector Quantization
- dedicated software for ASR with DTW, HMM and ANN-MLP
COMPUTING AND COMMUNICATIONS FACILITIES:
- Novel LAN with 3 486/66 MHz, 16 MB RAM, 420 MB HDD, 3 Pentium 133 MHz,
16 MB RAM, 2,4 GB HDD, Server COMPAQ, 1 PC Linux Machine
- Internet Access (Email and WWW)
- Modem Access on an internal line
- Fax at the DEpartment of Communications
COLLABORATIONS:
- 2 weeks (1993) and 1 month (1995) specialization of Prof. Mircea
Giurgiu at Departamento de Electronica y Tecnologia de Computadores,
Universidad de Granada, Spain (Supervizor: Prof.dr. Antonio Rubio)
- attendance at NATO ASI in Jersey, July, 1997
